Can cleaning your home be hazardous to your health?

In our efforts to be environmentally friendly and make our homes a healthy refuge, many would be surprised to learn just how toxic our homes really are.   And we may be unknowingly adding to the problem by cleaning our houses.

It’s not uncommon for most of us to have an array of cleaning products under our sinks. Take them out and line them up on the counter. What do you see? Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, streak free, foaming bubbles, fresh clean scent and other promise that draw you in to believe that the product will make your home spotless. But in actuality, you are wiping your counters and surfaces with chemicals that in many cases cause you more harm that good. Check the labels and read the ingredients. Unrecognizable? Want something more obvious? Check the warning labels…corrosive, poisonous, wear gloves, don’t inhale. Scary, isn’t it?

There are many web sites that provide a vast array of alternative and environmentally friendly cleaning products. A small amount of research can be all you need to make a huge difference in the health of your home and family.

Vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and corn starch are just a few of natural ingredients that be used to do the job of most commercial cleaners.

Do you have a simple cleaning solution that has replaced a commercial cleaner?

I love my LooHoo dryer balls. My clothes dry so much faster and softer. I just gave them to my daughter as she went to college. Great hostess gift!

We use essential oils to replace some cleaners. We use doTerra and I use ongaurd mixed with water as a disinfectant and mutipurpose cleaner. I have used lemon oil to deoderize my sink and peppermint oil mixed with water as an air freshener!

Another amazing alternative to harmful chemical cleaners is Norwex! I have been so impressed at the simplicity of the products and the fact that you can clean with just water and one microfiber cloth! So convicted am I that I started selling it! Everyone should know that their house and lives are better (no worse!) when they clean.
